Day 9: Monday, 6/20:
Sarah/Sam Fly-fishing the Uncompahgre River, Swimming, kayaking,
paddleboarding Ridgeway State Park Ridgeway, CO
The alarm went off at 6:30 am and Sarah and Sam ate
breakfast and headed out to meet their guide to go fly-fishing. After some brief lessons about fly rods,
reels, and casting, we were casting on some small ponds about 20 minutes from
camp. It was really fun standing in the
water wearing fly-fishing waders. Sarah
ended up catching 4 fish to Sam’s 2 fish. Darn it—there she goes again. Sarah and I have a bet as to who will catch
the most fish this trip. She’s now
leading 8 to 3!!! After spending about
2 hours on the ponds, we then walked and waded along the Uncompahgre River
trying to catch fish. Unfortunately,
both here and at Dolores last week, they are releasing water from the dam up
river, making the water flow strong and the fishing much more difficult. We didn’t even get a bite in the river. We then went back to the ponds and fished
more. We really had a fun morning from
8-12. We then met up with Andrea and
Ryan who had been swimming and playing all morning at the lake at Ridgway State
Park. After eating lunch at the RV, all
four of us went back to the lake to play more J. We inflated the kayak and the stand up paddle
board and all really enjoyed taking turns in each. We all also swam in the cool lake too. We were back at the RV around 6, grilled some
beef and vegetable skewers and hot dogs for dinner, and enjoyed the view of the
lake and mountains around us.
