Day 1: Sun, 6/12/16
We set the alarms for 530 am, got up, loaded the RV, threw
the 2 kids in the back bed and were on the road by 630 sharp. We drove 8 hours to Zion National Park, Utah
with only 2 short stops for gas and lunch (to go). Once at the Zion Canyon Campground, we
inflated the 4 tubes and tubed down the Virgin River. It was over 90 degrees out so the cool water
temperature and the small rapids were beautiful. The vistas of the incredible
red-rock cliffs juxtaposed with a blue sky, puffy-white clouds, and green trees
made for stunning views on this fun Father’s Day excursion. There was a deer running/jumping right
alongside the river next to us and there were swallows darting very near us
just above the surface of the river eating bugs. After a quick dinner of fruit, carrots, and
bagel melts (cream cheese, muenster cheese, and seasoning salt), we then rode
our bikes around the campground as the sun was setting its golden colors on the
towering cliffs above. Zion is gorgeous. We then talked for over an hour with the nice
couple from Amsterdam camping next to us.
A great day.
