Day 20: Fri.,
7/1: Vallecito Reservoir, CO
It started raining around 3 am
and continued all day. Fortunately, we
have an awning so it was fun to sit outside under the cover and watch the rain
come down hard on the river about 10 feet from the back of our RV. Sam tied all the knots for fishing on the
multiple poles we have. The 2 times
there was a break in the rain, we would all take a walk around the campground
or fish on the river to get rid of our cabin-fever and to exercise a little. Sam walked up the river a ways to fly
fish. He had fun but we have not caught
anything on this lake/river. When it was
raining, we would feed the pretty ducks that would swim to us (we would stay
under the awning), or read books and magazines.
Sam fixed a few broken things inside the motorhome, we played poker, the
kids played on the tablet and cell phone and we watched a movie. We also really enjoyed watching a mama duck
with her 5 ducklings and a mama loon (not Andrea!) with her 8 babies. They were adorable—especially when the moms
would swim fast and they’d follow behind her and 2 of the ducklings would jump
on her back and get a free ride. She
would teach them how to dive and one at a time they would go under and then pop
back up. Although we were cooped up most
of the day, we had a nice family day.
And the view is beautiful from our site making it much easier to enjoy.

Ducklings everyday at our campsite!!! So adorable. |

Our RV is near the middle right on the river as it enters the lake on the right side! Awesome! |

A mother loon with babies. Everyday we saw one or two riding on her back!

Those ducklings are adorable.
