Day 27: Fri, 7/8: Angel Fire Mountain Bike Area near Red River/Taos, NM

Day 27:  Fri, 7/8:  Angel Fire Mountain Bike Area near Red River/Taos, NM

Angel Fire Ski Area has over 29 miles of incredible single-track mountain bike trails—including 3 good beginner/intermediate trails.  After driving 30 minutes to get there, we took the chairlift up with our bikes and came down the beginner Easy Street trail.  Andrea and Sam absolutely loved this place.  The runs had rolling berms, jumps, bumps, bridges, and ramps.  Sarah and Ryan had their good moments and bad moments and overall liked it.  Sarah did 2 runs, Ryan and Andrea 3, and Sam 4 runs.  On the drive back home along the Enchanted Highway, we saw a herd of 23 elk with a cute baby in a meadow (the pictures didn’t turn out well so no posts).  We pulled over and watched them start running through the meadow and jumping over a fence.  For some reason, about 4 of them turned back looking very concerned and started running back towards the treeline they had come from.  So they all jumped back over the fence and ran across the meadow and back to the treeline.  We thought maybe they were going back for a missing baby elk, but we couldn’t see what they did back in the trees.  They were great to watch.  In camp, we showered, did laundry and enjoyed our last night along the river.
